London Series: London Lookbook

London is a melting pot of different backgrounds. This makes for an interesting interaction of personalities and viewpoints that we can all agree embody what London has been constructed to be. A facet of this assimilation has manifested in fashion as the daily or occasional attire London’s inhabitants don are of characteristics unique to the city. We will be looking at examples of London style that have been curated by our team to give you a glimpse of the aesthetic nuances you’ll experience.

London Series-UCL Days: Someone’s flat

This is probably the cheapest but the most convenient and potentially chaotic form of a night out; drinking in someone’s flat. The thing is with these events is that nobody knows when it’s over. People usually drink until they pass out or something unnecessarily violent happens amongst the visitors of the flat. However, this does make for a good bonding session between friends. Its a very intimate event and is only visited by usually the closest members of the friend group, or at least the people that don’t have a problem with each other. As the final post in the UCL Days series, this post embodies the spirit of uni; chaotic fun you’ll remember for the rest of your life. So cherish these moments in someone’s flat along with the hang outs, eat outs and exercise sessions you’ll have during your UCL days.

London Series-UCL Days: Accommodation Events

Having friends who live in an accommodation or living in an accommodation yourself has its social perks. The hall team usually holds events occasionally and these events include parties. These parties are usually a cheap way to have a great night outside of your room and potentially meet new people in your or someone’s halls. These events can generally be classified into two categories; informal and formal.

First, an informal accommodation event would just be a group of students having a few drinks in the halls’ common areas. This is usually nothing grand but can be a bit of fun especially if you’re meeting a bunch of new people. Both cheap and exciting, informal accommodation events are events that you should be honoured to be invited to. Second, formal accommodation events are events managed by the halls team at a residence. These are probably run really well with basic themes and cheap drinks. These can be fun but can also be disastrous such as malfunctioning audio systems or noise complaints.

London Series-UCL Days: Printworks london

Printworks London might not be a club but its definitely a great place to have a night out. This plot of private land is filled with a collection of mazes arranged on several stories to accommodate an interesting night out for any visitors. This venue is usually packed with visitors coming to watch whatever event that is being hosted by Printworks. Past events have invited artists such as Disclosure.

Printworks London is probably the venue that is most complicated to explain. A horizontal and vertical maze of industrial spaces spread out within its premises. This frenzy of passageways is to be navigated for the purpose of getting different views of the main stage where whoever is performing is making their presence known. This venue is probably the most complicated to get to as its an event site but will probably be a great choice on special ocassions.

London Series-UCL Days: XOYO

XOYO might be UCL’s favourite club as some events are specifically catered to students of the uni. This club is relatively straightforward consisting of two main levels both with their own dance floors and bars. The music itself is relatively generic with no particular theme regularly displayed. However, sometimes students just need a bit of generic pleasure to enjoy a simple night out with friends.

Entering XOYO is relatively simple as the first room is just a regular dance room with a few seats in one of the corners. Truth be told, this room is slightly dead so its usually a place people go to chill out in the middle of partying. Fortunately, the real party room is downstairs and you’re immediately met with a pit of people along with a stage and bar. There isn’t anything too unique about this room but the simplicity itself is very appealing for a regular night out with your friends.

London Series-UCL Days: Piccadilly institute

Piccadilly Institute is a unique club in a well-known area that will give you an interesting experience. This is done by the thematic variations inside the club where each of the six rooms has its own theme with each of their own individual cocktail selections. The different rooms are mostly located on different levels so navigating through them would probably a bit tiring so sticking to one room would be ideal. Nonetheless, Piccadilly Institute is a great option for an interesting night out with friends.

Piccadilly Institute is a multi-storied building with different thematic concepts for different rooms. The first level houses the VIP room where there is a limit to the partygoers of a specific dance floor. This causes traffic to flow upwards to the higher levels. Most of the levels are structured the same with a bathroom, dance floor and a bar for each room. However, a primary distinction between some of the rooms is that they either have a dance floor or tables for visitors.
