London Series: Food at International Hall

International Halls provides catering services in their dining hall 2 days everyday; breakfast and dinner on weekdays and lunch and dinner on weekends. It is also possible to order packed meals when students have to be absent from the dining hall at the allotted meal times. Breakfast and Lunch are served to residents where they can choose up to six items on the menu plus a drink and dessert. Dinner is served to residents where they can choose a soup or bread, a main course, 2 sides, a drink and dessert.

Taste:

The taste of the food at International Hall is generally average. There is not much praise to be given for the taste of the food as it is prepared in bulk and difficult to guarantee high quality taste.

Lunch at Breakfast at International Hall can be considered quite decent and even pretty good at times. They serve an english breakfast with selections such as beans, sausages, pastries and fish. Its generally very hard to mess these sorts of food up so the catering staff are able to do a relatively satisfactory job. An interesting tip is to choose bread with eggs and sausages to make a sandwich. Another tip is to just order as many chicken sausages (don’t order the vegetarian sausages they’re terrible) and eat them with a few packets of salt. Also, if you are in a hurry for a morning class taking 6 butter croissants (usually served on Fridays and the only type of croissants that won’t hurt your teeth when you bite into them) to go as they are relatively filling.

Dinner at International Hall can be quite depressing. Not much of the selection is very good and almost never filling but at least they attempt to diversify the selections every week. A personal favourite amongst the students is the chicken, but not the tasteless chicken breast, which is usually served with gravy and surprisingly tender to the bite. This main course option is one of the only saving graces that the catering service at International Hall has to offer and its not even that good. Furthermore, a dish that should be definitely be avoided are any noodle dishes. The noodle dishes served at International Hall are generally quite bland and heavy with garnishes that don’t add to the flavour but make it more difficult to eat. Ever choosing a noodle dish would be a grave mistake and whoever ends up doing that should be prepared to shell out a few pounds on dinner from an outside source.

The drinks served at International Hall are generally quite good as they are . They usually serve two selections of juices from either apple, orange and lime juice with soft drinks. Sometimes the soft drink machine is not filled correctly and all you will get is fizzy water coming out of the tap.

Availability:

In terms of availability, the catered food at International Hall is only available at the allotted meal times.

There is a wide selection of grocers and restaurants to choose from around the area. Firstly, The Brunswick, a shopping centre within walking distance of International Hall, offers a various selection of restaurants and grocer. To shop for groceries Waitrose and Sainsbury are available with the former being the more expensive option of the two. Also, The Brunswick has restaurants such as Nando’s, Fuwa Fuwa (A japanese pancake parlour which is frequented by many curious guests), GBK Burgers, Go Sushi and Itsu. Second, the road along Russel Square Tube Station houses restaurants such as Franco Manca and Wasabi along with a Tesco store.

London Series: Facilities at International Hall (English)

Rooms:

The rooms at International Hall are generally satisfactory for a student to live in. For example, their catered shared bathroom single bedroom is enough for a student to have a comfortable place to rest. It is fitted with a sink, mirror, desk, wardrobe, window, heater and plenty of space to store any items. The desk is vary spacious and can fit a multitude of items on the table and in its shelves. The wardrobe is relatively large and can fit many clothing items. However, the bed is quite small but enough for one person and the duvet they provide is rather ineffective against the cold, so buying an extra duvet is advised. Another downside is that the shared toilets are often clogged as people usually throw toilet paper into them.

Study Rooms:

The study rooms at International Hall are quite useful for studying. The first one can be found in the main lobby area. It has glass walls so students can see inside from outside and outside from inside which will be an issue for self-conscious people. It is generally quite good as there are partitions to separate desks so students can have a bit of privacy and is equipped with a mini-library though the actual relevance of the books in it to every student may vary.

Next, there is a study room in the lower ground floor of the halls. This room is quite spacious with lots of long tables. This room is good for people who want to work in silence outside of their room as generally people who use the room tend to respect the unwritten rule of silence.

Last, there is the study room on the second floor. This room might be the best out of the three as not many people know about it and it overlook the outside of the halls. Although the view is not exactly a spectacle, it can be quite calming to be able to gaze out the window from time-to-time to relax momentarily.

Common Room:

The common room is frequented by residents who want spend the evening together. The ping-pong table is almost always booked by people who want to have a bit of competition before they head to bed. The pool table is very popular as a lot of residents are quite good at pool and often challenge each other. The sofas are usually full of residents having a drink or a relaxing night with their friends.

Squash Court:

The squash court is quite standard and does its purpose well.

Music Room:

The two music rooms are quite similar to each other where both have a piano and guitar. There is no wifi in this room.

Outside Area:

The outside area consists of a small gazebo surrounded by benches. To be honest its quite useless during term time as its usually very cold so nobody bothers to use this area.

Bike Parking:

Bike parking area is exactly what you would expect it to be.

Concierge:

The concierge is quite useful at handling deliveries and booking rooms for use. Although they can be rather problematic when you want to check in guests.

Laundry Room:

The laundry room is quite standard with washing machines, dryers and an ironing station. An unspoken rule in the laundry room is that a machine is finished the next user may take out the clothes within and place them somewhere appropriate so they can use the machine.

Movie Room:

The movie room is quite comfortable and can accommodate a relatively large group of people. It is quite soundproof so residents can watch movies in peace without disturbing others.

LG Lounge:

The LG Lounge is often used as a communal space for various activities. Residents use this are for activities such as birthday parties, drinking or just hanging out. Primarily, residents use this area for pre-drinks before going out for the night or to have a meal together after returning from a night out.

Playstation Room:

The playstation room is literally just a room with a tv, playstation set and a few seats. The games provided include FIFA and NBA2K.

London Series: Westminster for Business, Universitas dengan Jurusan Bisnis yang Unik dan Berkelas (English)

Business is a very sought after program as it is very flexible and can tie into many industries. The universities of london offer a variety of choices that can award a prestigious business degree. These universities include Queen Mary University of London, University of Westminster, City University of London Business School and UCL.

University of Westminster

Overview

Westminster is known for having an international student body and excellent business related programs. Westminster is an incredible choice for students seeking an insightful yet enjoyable university experience.

Special Quality

Westminster’s main strength is its attention in maintaining a healthy learning experience for its students. Firstly, the Business Management and Finance course at Westminser is multidisciplinary in nature making it interesting to learn. For example, the course teaches modules both concerning business management such as Business Decision Making and finance in Corporate Finance. Additionally, students find that the modules are designed to help students and not drain them. Second, the university delivers these lessons in an interesting manner, primarily in group-oriented activities. For example, daily class activities and final projects are done in groups. This allows students to learn together with a lessened burden due to the cooperation needed to succeed.

Preparation for Work

Westminster emphasises classroom conventions in its attempt to prepare students for the professional world. Westminster incorporates practical activities within their modules to allow students to implement their knowledge. For instance, most modules in this program have business simulation games. These games are beneficial as they are interesting so they keep students stimulated, teach how a decision can impact a business and also coach students to work in a group dynamic which is crucial in the professional world. Also, Westminster accepts students from foundation programs as transfer students and immediately admits them as second year students. For example, students that graduated from an Indonesian High School can continue their education at Kaplan International College London. Due to the partnership between Westminser and Kaplan, Kaplan students are able to save time and immediately become a second year student upon graduation of the program.

Intensity

Westminster can be considered as relatively less intense and teaches students to be independent in their studies. Students usually have 3 active study days in the week with 4-6 hours a day and on other days 1-2 hours of independent study. Also, student interaction is generally chill but can become competitive when performing class activities such as group-based games.

In conclusion, the University of Westminster is a great choice for a business degree as its stimulating and encouraging environment is prime for studying.

London Series: Hult for Business, Universitas Bisnis yang Membangun Karakter (English)

Business is a very sought after program as it is very flexible and can tie into many industries. The universities of london offer a variety of choices that can award a prestigious business degree. These universities include Queen Mary, Westminster, City University of London Business School and UCL.

Hult International Business School

Overview

Hult International Business School, as the name implies, is a very diverse university which offers business courses of high quality. This account of Hult International Business School is provided by Daniel Rahadyan, a first year Entrepreneurship student of the institution.

Hult International Business School London Campus, photo by Hult International Business School

Special Quality

Daniel notes that a noteworthy aspect of Hult’s education is character building. Daniel feels that Hult actively shapes their students to become successful by exposing them to different kinds of mindsets. As a result, Daniel understands the mindset of a young entrepreneur, analytical ability of a manager and handles complications the way an owner would. This multifaceted mindset is extremely useful in solving problems on any level of a business. In addition, this constructive learning environment is facilitated by friendly professors who both attempt to make learning more enjoyable and is generous in their tutelage.

Preparation for Work

Hult’s Entrepreneurship course helps students accustom their attitude to working life. Daniel finds this in Hult’s emphasis on discipline. For example, Hult has strict policies on punctuality and a student is not permitted to enter the classroom after being ten minutes late. This is a very rudimentary matter but is essential in training a student to understand the importance of professionalism.

Intensity

In terms of intensity, Hult’s schedule is manageable and the student competition is of a healthy amount. Daniel feels that Hult’s schedule is relatively light as he takes 10 classes of 5 modules per week with each class spanning an hour and twenty minutes. Additionally, students at Hult are quite competitive regarding academics. This helps create a healthy culture where the main mindset is to gain as much as possible from the lessons Hult offers.

Overall, Hult is a very impressionable university which is extremely beneficial towards a student’s personal development. Hult is able to provide students with a very supportive learning environment that will shape students to become primed for work in the future.

London Series: City for Business (Cass Business School), Salah Satu Universitas dengan Jurusan Bisnis Terbaik di Dunia (English)

usiness is a very sought after program as it is very flexible and can tie into many industries. The universities of london offer a variety of choices that can award a prestigious business degree. These universities include Queen Mary, Westminster, City University of London Business School and UCL.

Cass Business School, City University of London

Overview

Cass Business School, a part of City University of London, is one of the most reputable business schools in the UK and Europe. Amongst its many excellent business courses, Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship is one of the most sought after courses due to it being important in the future of business. This account of Cass Business School is provided by Emir, a second year Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship student of the institution.

City University London, photo by Shiksa Study Abroad from https://studyabroad.shiksha.com/uk/universities/city-university-london

Special Quality

Studying Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship at CASS, Emir notes that a notable quality this program offers is how interesting it is in relation to the real world. A noticeable pattern within this course is that it focuses on how new technology will develop in correlation to a more digital business world. Modern businesses have a heavy reliance on technology and this program will focus on surviving in a more digital business world and creating innovations to expand it. Emir also notes that in his first year he did not delve into this matter enough as students of all courses are combined into one course in the first year; Business Management. Only after that, in their second year, will the students start to study in their more specific courses.

Work Preparation

This program helps students prepare for work by training them early on how to act as young entrepreneurs. Emir finds this in his module called Critical Thinking where he is faced with unique problems to be solved in hypothetical but very realistic scenarios in the real world. For example, Emir was faced with a problem from the course which put him in a scenario where he was an upcoming entrepreneur in the transportation industry facing a competitor who had just recently discovered a technological innovation. This sort of flexibility and creativity in doing business is essential in complementing the theoretical know-how in the real world.

Intensity

Cass’ learning environment can be considered quite intense academically and from the students themselves. Firstly, Emir shares that the course assigns tasks every week in the form of essays or presentations which may take more than a day to finish. In addition, the course provides optional tutorial sessions which assign optional tutorial work which adds up to the academic aggregate. However, Emir believes that this amount of work is manageable with good commitment and time management leaving students enough time to enjoy themselves on the weekend. Furthermore, the students are quite competitive which builds an enthusiastic learning atmosphere regarding the topics they learn. For example, the competitive nature of the students in Emir’s course inspired them to create societies revolving entrepreneurship. Participating in these societies is very useful for both experience, improving practical skills and writing on a students CV.

Overall, Cass is a very interesting option which teaches its students to stay adapted to the growing role of technology in modern business. It allows students to study a subject they generally enjoy in a setting that indulges students academically and within extracurricular conventions.
