PPI London X Access Education: Divisi POSDM

POSDM PPI London or the Human Resources Development team is focused on empowering the organisation’s members. This is done through various collaborative events such as team-building activities. This division is dedicated to providing an opportunity for the members of PPI London and the organisation as a whole to become the best possible versions of themselves possible.

This account of PPI London is provided by Samantha Aurelia, a second year Bsc Actuarial Science student at Cass Business School and the Head of POSDM PPI London 2020/2021.

The Human Resource Development division helps individuals to develop their skills, knowledge, and abilities. Most importantly, the quality of relationships between PPI London’s committees to improve each individual performances, and the overall organisational effectiveness. By providing internal management training, we help enhance their strengths as well as their ability to contribute to our organisation.

Here, we want to make sure not only they are trained to do the job but also continue to grow and develop new skills. Team-building activities, for example, is a key component in motivation. We help foster a sense of brotherhood among fellow students, regardless of their backgrounds and encourage the improvement on all ethnic groups. Individuals are able to share their strengths in complementary roles to produce meaningful results. With the interpersonal dynamics team-working creates, collaboration offers more than the sum of its parts. The more the people, the more the ideas, and the more people we can connect to. Anyone will be able to positively contribute to the society

Through Human Resource Development, we are able to understand how to work with people, conflict resolutions, and so on. Having good people skills and the ability to communicate effectively is a bonus. People are the most valuable asset in each community. Human resources helps in structuring teams, builds culture of the organisation and helps people to engage and participate more in the organisation. It creates a lot of difference in enhancing the productivity of the society. For example, conflict is somewhat inevitable as individuals have different personalities, lifestyles and work ethic. You’ll be taught how to handle conflict and how to resolve it. You’ll also be taught how to handle the situation as professionally as possible. It doesn’t matter where the conflict arises between, you should be able to assist both parties equally and not choose sides.

One of the major factors of a successful human resource is an array of skills to deal with a variety of situations. It simply isn’t enough to have knowledge of HR, such as knowing which forms need to be filled out.

Besides good communication skills and excellent management skills, being able to multitask is vital. Here, we focus on all areas of the business. We may have to deal with a conflict one minute, then switch and deal with activities. As trite as it may sound, people skills are perhaps the most important skills in the realm of people management.

PPI London X Access Education: Divisi Wirausaha

Divisi Wirausaha is the entreprenurship division of PPI London. This division primarily focuses on providing goods and services for Indonesians in London that need helping out. This division is very community driven in the sense that it caters to the specific needs of an Indonesian student in London as the members of the division have been in the same position. Today we will be talking about why joining this division will be a beneficial experience for any Indonesian students interested.

This account of PPI London is provided by Andrew So, the Head of PPI London 2020/2021 Wirausaha.

This division serves the student community or others with the services we offer. Our services also help students’ lives, for example, by ppi, so we pick up Indonesian students at very competitive rates, we can take them from the airport to their home or vice versa or we can also go out of town. In addition, there is Ppi London accommodation that helps Indonesian students or others who are looking for a place to live, so we help find a place to live according to their specifications, we list and the ones chosen we can also help inspect directly. There is also a surprise me, so we can help people who want to surprise, whether friends or family in London, surprisin want to make bday or something else. There are also essay tutors to help Indonesian students construct their essays, not make them, so we help to check the term for the essay, it’s ok, whether it’s not yet and check for errors etc., even here we have professional workers from well-known unions. In addition, there are also jeeps from London to Indo or vice versa, so we help fill the second need. Then we every few months bring favorite food in Indo to sell in London for those who really miss Indo food which is hard to find in London or can’t find delicious, for example we have brought bakmie to London and the results are also pretty good for the experiment and the first time done. Next, I want to bring other types of Indonesian cuisine. And of all our efforts, we give 50% of the profit to the community service department of PPO London to be distributed to those who are more in need, 50% of which we use for other PPI events which also certainly generate benefits for people too.

The benefits of joining the wirus division include learning to do business indirectly, how to do business on a micro level and of course, make new friends or network. Here it fails as well as if it’s okay because all of our services are in the form of payment in front so there are no losses that arise, so it’s good for beginners to want to learn business

The ability to enter this division is not difficult, the important thing is to work hard and have good customer service because most of our work programs involve service. There must be a willingness to work because if what is done in this division, the customer will not come automatically

Our criteria for the guest speaker that we invited are influencer and/or scholarship awardee. This event was meant to provide Indonesian students with a different perspective of going to uni in London from a person with a unique set of circumstances.

  • Webinar

The second event we did was a webinar that aimed to give a light hearted and informative career talk. We invited 3 speakers that are based in London with differing professional backgrounds, having them share their knowledge and story about their career in London so far.

  • Our first webinar has the theme “careers in the UK: from breaking into the private sector to being your own boss”We invited an entrepreneur, Pino Edwards, the owner of Pinos Warung in Camden Market, an Indonesian cuisine business that in just a year have become a very popular spot for the Indo London community. We also invited Christy Zakarias, the executive director of YIPA (Young Indonesian Professionals Association) and an assistant VP for investor relations in Barclays Bank. Lastly, we invited Rania Rusly a third year at Imperial College that has experience in software engineering internships at google and gojek.
    • We tried to make this webinar special by providing a presentation from the speakers, so that there is visual stimulus and a more casual atmosphere compared to previous webinars/career talks held by the indosoc in colleges like Kings.
      • We also picked 3 panelists with diverse backgrounds so that all types of careers can be represented and that the attendees can gain holistic knowledge.
      • And after all the panelist presents their material we continue on to a QnA session so that the attendees can interact directly with the speakers and ask them questions regarding the professional world.

These activities are targeted to students who want to pursue their career in the UK after completing their degree. We collaborate with fellow Indonesian who has already worked professionally here in the UK to pass out handy tips and tricks in order to ace job searching. We break down these activities by sectors such as private sectors (finance, tech/IT, entrepreneurship, engineering, and consulting.
